GLORIA GAYNOR

Gloria Fowles (Newark, 7 de setembro de 1949), mais conhecida pelo seu nome artístico, Gloria Gaynor, é uma cantora estadunidense, mais conhecida por seus grandes sucessos da Era Disco, "Never can Say Goodbye" de 1974, "Let Me Know (I Have A Right)" de 1978, "I Am What I Am" de 1984 e, principalmente, "I Will Survive" de 1978.[1]

Biografia

Gloria Gaynor começou a cantar em um grupo chamado The Soul Satifiers na década de 1960. O grupo se apresentava em boates e assim Gloria foi descoberta e, logo foi levada para gravar seu primeiro single, "She'll Be Sorry/Let Me Go Baby", mas não obteve sucesso com sua primeira gravação, só mais tarde quando gravou "Honeybee" que Gloria Gaynor entrou nas paradas de sucesso e, com "Never Can Say Goodbye", ela ficou famosa no mundo inteiro.

"Never Can Say Goodbye" também passou a ser considerada a primeira gravação em Disco Music. Gloria Gaynor também foi a primeira artista a gravar versões "extended mix" das músicas e também a primeira a gravar o disco sem pausa. Gloria Gaynor continuou a gravar até que em 1978 eis que surge aquele que até hoje é seu maior sucesso, "I Will Survive". A música visa o ponto de vista de uma mulher recém abandonada, dizendo ao ex companheiro que não precisa mais dele e já pode se virar sozinha. A música fez muito sucesso e em 1980 ganhou o primeiro e único Grammy de Melhor Gravação para Disco Music. "I will Survive" já foi regravada diversas vezes por diversos artistas. Uma de suas regravações mais populares é a feita pelo grupo Cake, nos anos 90.

Gloria Gaynor, continua gravando e em 2002, lançou o álbum I Wish You Love que foi muito bem sucedido, rendendo ainda mais prêmios para Gloria. Mais recentemente, Gloria Gaynor lançou os singles "Supernatural Love", "Last Night", "I Never Knew" e "Hacer por Hacer", que ela gravou com o cantor Miguel Bosé.
